This song is taken directly from Psalm 131, which blends personal response with a call to the people of God to hope in the Lord. The psalm addresses Israel in its day; in our day, the New Testament tells us, we are the Israel of God, which is why we can confidently sing, ‘hope in the Lord, o Israel, forever’.
